Inexpensive Entertainment While Quarantined

inexpensive entertainment while quarantined.

Millions of people are under a shelter in place order from their state government. My state has been under such an order for about six weeks now. We’re getting restless to get out and do things, especially as the weather gets warmer. People are looking for inexpensive entertainment while quarantined.

Here’s a list of five inexpensive things you can do to keep yourself occupied while sheltering in place:

Yard Care

This is the year to make your lawn have that golf course look you’ve always dreamed about. Jazz up the look of your home by staining the deck or planting flowers. Nurseries and big box retailers with garden centers are essential businesses and open so there’s no shortage of outlets to get the fertilizer, plants, pots and soil you need for yard care projects.

Self Educate

I found myself sitting on my couch a lot lately, wondering what to do with myself. During one such moment, I took out my phone to capture a picture of my cat sitting funny. The thought occurred to me I had always wanted to learn how to take better pictures. There’s a ton of free information on the internet, so I decided to do some self-education. Whether it be becoming a better photographer, learning the constellations or doing research on the inner workings of the human brain, now may be the best time to sink your teeth into it.

Stream Live Music

There’s a local musician that plays at restaurants my wife and I have enjoyed watching for a few years. Since restaurants are currently closed, he has taken to streaming online. He uses the Sessions streaming platform, which requires only that listeners install a free ap on their mobile device. My wife and I sit outside on our patio and listen to him play a couple times a week. We can also buy “love” and give virtual gifts to him of varying amounts. It’s like giving him a tip. There is a huge variety of musicians streaming on Sessions providing endless content and entertainment.

Read

Talk to any highly successful person and they’ll tell you reading is a key ingredient in their success. Reading gets your brain moving. You might have books around the house you’ve meant to read for years, or maybe you’ll need to order some new ones off the internet. Curling up with a good book is perfect entertainment on a rainy day.

Get Healthy

Going for walks (allowed in most places), doing workout videos, learning how to cook and even just getting more sleep can dramatically improve your health. It gives you something to put your focus on, and it’ll improve how you feel in the long run.

These five ideas are just a starter list of inexpensive entertainment while quarantined. They’ll not only keep you occupied, but maybe even give you enjoyment. Who knows, maybe you’ll keep doing them even after things return to normal.

How about you, Clever Friends, what are you doing for entertainment while quarantined?
