Examine Your Motives Series: Introduction
Stacie and I were discussing some major topics recently such as having kids and buying a new car. As you may know, we recently sold our Chevy Malibu, and we’ve also been discussing adoption and biological birth pretty heavily.
Then a light bulb turned on over my head. Literally because it was getting dark in the dining room so I turned on the light. Anyway, I asked myself “What is my motivation for this? What am I trying to get out of this?”. The “this” was things like having children, buying another car for Stacie, or selling our home in 2 years. So I decided to write a series to ask myself, and all of you, “What is your motivation?”.
So all this week, I’ll be posting articles in this series to question such things as going to college, having kids, and buying a home. I’m not the type to get all statistical on you. Rather, I intend to question your emotions, feelings and goals. This isn’t about comparing yourself to me and Stacie, but to help dig deeper into your thought process to figure out what YOU really want out of life.
Here’s the series so far:

Just wanted to add a few tips i have done over the past years to save.
1. Buy fuel efficient cars. Stick with all the same make, you save on shared parts. You do not need to impress the neighbors you own a better auto than they….
2. Have a family budget that you work everyday. Match it with the bank balances, compare it to previous months, use it for investments. Bottom line is to know where your money is going. I have ours planned until the end of 2010. Many of the ready-made budgets on the various websites are fine, but one would need to tailor it to their specific life style and spending/savings habits. I wrote my own for the past 8 years.
3. Clean out your wardrobe closets, give to the DAV, SA, and other charity places. (many will give you a tax off certificate)
4. Eat smart. No sodas, no chips, no wasted foods that you have to throw away because no one eats it. Drink filtered water.
5. Check all appliances for energy efficiency. Do research on ALL products you wish to buy (things you need, not want). Compare every detail for the best deal. especially when buying electronics, garden accessories, etc. Use a good search engine (Google) that will give you Shopping, then compare from there.
6. Use free Shipping and handling when ever buying online. Amazon for one. They sell everything now.
I can add more, but will wait for comments.
