Why Everyone is Talking About ‘Elden Ring?’
If you have any interest in video games, your social media timelines and google news feed has been inundated with content about one game over the last few weeks. That game is Elden Ring.
For those of you that have been living in a cave since the 25th of February, Elden Ring is the latest title released by FromSoftware, the studio behind the Dark Souls series. Personally, I have put about 70 hours into the game in a little over a week. Today, I’m here to clue you in on why everyone is talking about Elden Ring.
Starting Out in ‘Elden Ring’
When you first boot up Elden Ring and select a new game, you will be greeted with the character creation menu. From here, you can choose from 10 base character classes. While all classes are viable in Elden Ring, each one offers its own strengths and weaknesses.
Some classes will make the start of your journey into the lands between a little easier than others. For players who are new to the FromSoftware experience, I would recommend starting with either the Astrologist, Confessor, or the Vagabond.
If you’re looking to play a pure mage character, the astrologist is the best choice for you because it has everything you need to sling spells right from the jump. If magic isn’t your style but getting up close and personal with your enemies is, Vagabond has the staring attributes and gear you’re looking for. For everyone looking for a healthy mix of spells and hand-to-hand combat, the Confessor has you covered.
How My ‘Elden Ring’ Experience Has Gone So Far
For my initial play-through, I chose the Confessor because I was looking to build a Paladin-style character. I normally play the tank role in most role-playing games (RPG) so I figured a sword and shield plus a little holy magic would be all I needed. However, I quickly learned that raw damage would ultimately be my best friend.

Without spoiling too much of the opening of the game, after I created my character, I was almost immediately cast into the hardcore Dark Souls-style gameplay that everyone talks about. I have never played a FromSoftware title before but I had long heard they were some of the hardest video games ever created.
After my humbling reality check in the first five minutes, I opened a set of doors and was stunned by the world I walked into. Every corner of Elden Rings’ world named the Lands Between is breathtakingly beautiful. Each zone of the map is distinctly different from the scarlet rotten swamp to the golden capital city. One common theme is the eerie omnibus of the entire world. I have been playing video games for 30 years and I have to say I have never played a game that was this immersive.
I want to talk about so much more but Elden Ring is truly a game you should experience for yourself. What I will leave you with is this, it is not for the faint of heart, it will break you. At times, you will hate the game but when you finally overcome an area you were stuck on you will remember why you keep playing.
Despite the hardships of the land between, if you want my personal recommendation Elden Ring is a 10/10. If you are looking to challenge yourself and explore a truly amazing world, buy Elden Ring on whatever platform you play on. It’s worth the investment for the fun you’ll have.
