Holidays are important, right? You work all year, you deserve a holiday. You switch off from work, you go somewhere nice and you do what you want to do when you want to do it. Except that maybe sometimes you get back home after a couple of weeks and you look at what you’ve spent and you think to yourself, ‘Was it worth it?’
One of the things about a holiday is that you don’t want to be worrying about what you spend. It’s a great feeling to just put your hand in your pocket and not worry about it. So, it makes sense to choose a holiday destination where you’re going to get the most for your dollar. Like I said, a holiday is a major expense, it’s a little surprising then that most people give it less consideration than what they’re going to eat Saturday night. Maybe you go somewhere a friend has been and had a good time or somewhere you’ve seen on T.V or maybe you just go back to the same place because that’s where you always go.
Well maybe it’s time you did a bit more research and started getting a bit more value for your hard-earned dollar. Price indexes on the web can be a really helpful way of planning your holiday. A site like Price of Travel is a good place to start. This site gives you comparative information about world-wide destinations. So, for example, if you’re planning a trip to Vegas, it’ll give you comparative information on travel costs as well as prices for accommodation, attractions and food and drink. It also gives you helpful background information such as temperature and rainfall. What’s great about this site is that it has world-wide coverage, so it’s easy to browse destinations that you might never have considered before.
Some sites, such as this British one will give you a breakdown of the cost of holiday destinations ranked according to the cost of a range of typical holiday expenses. O.K so you’ve never even thought about going to Prague but take a look at those prices and think again.
Maybe you’ve always wanted to treat yourself to a bit more of a specialist holiday, like skiing in the French Alps for example. Impossibly expensive? Well maybe not as bad as you think. Here’s another Brit website that lets you compare the cost of European ski resorts by giving you a price per kilometre of piste, based on a range of typical skiing costs. Fancy seeing a European soccer match? This site ranks the cost of seeing top class soccer, so that you can decide if it’s worth it. A ticket for FC Shakhtar Donetsk is a mere £3 ($3.70 at the current exchange rate). I guess what I’m saying is be prepared to consider something you’ve never even considered before because you assumed it would be way too expensive.
Whether you’re planning on staying in the US or whether you’re going to take advantage of a strong dollar and go abroad, take a little more time before making that decision and use the web to get the best for your buck.
