Relaxing on a beach listening to the waves crash is a dream vacation for many busy adults. For kids, however, just sitting in a chair staring at water doesn’t cut it. They want to be entertained. If you’re planning a family vacation to the beach, there are inexpensive beach activities that can keep kids entertained for hours, or even be fun for the whole family.

Inflatables

Kids love floating on inflatable objects. You could get a standard inflatable tube, or you could kick up your game a notch by getting something like an inflatable whale for $18.99 from Amazon.  Kids can ride the whale in the water, and you can supervise from your beach chair.

Sand Toys

No visit to the beach is complete without building a sand castle. It’s imperative to have some sand toys for kids to dig in the sand. Don’t be afraid to join in and build a masterpiece with your kids. A set of sand toys that will help make invaluable memories can be had from Amazon for $19.99.

Rent A Kayak

Paddle a kayak out from shore to get a completely different, yet spectacular view of the beach. While paddling around near shore, you may get some unexpected views of marine life such as jellyfish, dolphins, and even stingrays.  If you’re vacationing in Destin, Florida, a kayak rental can be found for $100 for a day, or $150 for an entire week.  Prices may vary in other areas of the country, but if you are vacationing with another family you could reduce the cost by splitting it.

Rent A Pontoon Boat

At $200 for 4 hours in Destin, Florida, some might think this doesn’t classify as an inexpensive beach activity. However, renting a pontoon boat for an afternoon has the potential of being the best valued activity you’ll do on your entire vacation. In a couple of hours you can do a variety of activities such as:

  • Fishing
  • Touring the area
  • Viewing marine life such as dolphins
  • Swimming

Beaches are a favorite destination for family vacations.  Make the most of your trip to the beach by taking advantage of inexpensive beach activities that are both cost effective, and fun for the entire family.

How about you, Clever Friends, what inexpensive beach activity would you add to this list?  Which one is your favorite?

I live 30 minutes from the beach. I love to surf, even during the winter.

We buy sand toys for daughter for 3-4 bucks, otherwise it becomes too expensive for my taste. We also have an inflatable lounge that doesn’t cost more than 5 bucks. We stay away from paid activities, these can really be a wallet drain 😀

Usually daughter will just play in the sand or throw stones in the water, she can do this for hours
