How Waiakea Water Is Capitalizing On Trends In The Bottled Water Industry
An increasing number of consumers have been demanding that the companies they frequent become more environmentally friend and sustainable over the past few years. This has affected quite a large number of industries in a variety of ways, with a significant number of them adapting to meet this demand. However, that doesn’t mean that every industry has been quick to do so, with there being a few notable examples of this.
Perhaps the largest of these has been the bottled water industry, which has been responsible for a significant amount of waste and pollution over the past few decades. This has primarily been seen through the use of single-use plastics, which a large number of consumers have been asking to be removed or replaced. However, many companies operating within the sector haven’t figured out how to do so.
What has further compounded the issue is that more and more consumers are demanding that the water that comes within these bottles is sourced from sustainable places. However, this hasn’t meant that they’ve been happy with water that has been filtered and bottled within a city. In contrast, a growing percentage of them have begun looking for companies that get their water from natural sources and which has been filtered in a variety of different ways.
Despite the growing number of people who have asked for this, the industry as a whole has been slow to pick this up. However, that doesn’t mean that there haven’t been a few notable exceptions to the rule. In fact, there have been quite a large variety who have, each of which has had varying degrees of success. While few tackle both of the issues that customers are highlighting, many have attempted to focus at least one of them.
For example, quite a large number of them have begun sourcing their products from natural alkaline sources, while others have made adjustments to their packaging to make them eco-friendly. However, many firms haven’t done both, which is something that may be driving away a large number of customers. As a result, there has been a variety of firms that have looked to target this growing niche, many of which have been becoming increasingly more successful.
One of the most notable of these in recent years has been Waiakea Water, which was founded in 2012. The company is the brainchild of Ryan Emmons, who came up with the idea while spending a winter holiday in Hawaii. While there, he noticed that the bottled water he was drinking tasted much better and fresher than the ones he was used to back home. As such, he explored the area further and found that the source of the water was the reason why.
He found out that a natural water source near Hilo on the Big Island of Hawaii contained water that was filtered by a nearby volcano. As a result, it contained quite a large variety of healthy chemicals that also helped add to the taste of it. Armed with this knowledge, he soon began preparing the launch of Waiakea Water.
