1. Get ready for tomorrow
Choose the clothes you will wear to work, line up your gym clothes if you are going to work out, and put all your essential documents in your bag. Then write down how you would like to spend your morning. The next day you will be more productive because everything you need is already at hand.
Imagine the opposite when you are not ready for a new day. You overslept, you can’t choose what to wear, you forgot where you put your papers. If you prepare everything in the evening, this won’t happen, and the morning will start quietly.
2. Stop consuming after midnight
Try to make a rule for yourself: don’t eat or drink anything but water after midnight. There is simply no point in eating or drinking when your body is supposed to be sleeping.
This strategy does not limit your experience or life, even if you are a college student, and does not force you to be a scrooge. It simply reduces useless spending.
3. Choose a place to relax
If you’ve been staring at a screen all day, you need to unwind physically and mentally in the evening. In that case, watching cinemas is the least effective method.
Find a place where you feel comfortable and spend 20 minutes just to calm down. For example, you can sit in silence in the kitchen or look out the window.
Another option is to take a shower as soon as you get home. This will give your brain the signal that the day’s work is over. Or do simple household chores that relax you.
4. Reflect on the day
Five to ten minutes is enough. Recall the pleasures of the day, rejoice in the small victories, and think about what you could do better.
Here are some questions to ask yourself during such reflections:
- What did I do and what did I miss?
- How does it make me feel?
- Could it have been done in less time? If so, how?
- What actions were unimportant or even unnecessary but seemed urgent?
- What would I change to become more productive?
5. Find a hobby you love
Work routines usually don’t leave much time for hobbies.
