5 Cheap Ways To Recover From Hangover
I used to drink a lot, often too much, but hangovers were never a big problem for most of my life. I am turning 34 this year and I am finally coming to the realization that, as I get older, I just can’t drink like I used to. More importantly, I can’t recover from a night of drinking the way I once could. That got me thinking about some of the cheap ways to recover from a hangover that have saved me and my buddies a few times.
Prevent the Hangover
First, the best thing you can do for yourself is an attempt to prevent the hangover altogether. Some ways you might do this include:
- Hydrating properly throughout the night by drinking water between alcoholic beverages can help you prevent your hangover and ultimately save you money on booze.
- Popping an aspirin before you start drinking can help you avoid feeling like crap the next day too.
- Avoiding sugary drinks will also make it easier for you to avoid the hangover.
Get a Greasy Breakfast
If you failed to prevent your hangover, don’t worry. There’s plenty out there that can save you. My favorite cheap hangover cure is a greasy McDonald’s breakfast. Generally speaking, there is always a Mickey D’s around and if I’m up while they’re serving breakfast after a night of drinking, I’m feeling it. A hot hashbrown, chicken biscuit, and large Coke sets me right every time.
Hot Black Coffee
No matter where you live, you can get a cup of black coffee fairly cheap and it can really save you if you are hung over. The caffeine counteracts the effects of the alcohol, essentially. Grab a cup and try to come back to your senses.
Ramen
Ramen is another one of the great cheap ways to recover from a hangover. If you have a pack of Ramen in your pantry, grab it and prepare it. Then add spicy red pepper flakes or a little hot sauce to the soup. This helps you clear out any of the headaches and congestion you may feel. The extra carbs also help you raise your blood sugar back up and get you feeling better.
Here’s my personal go-to spicy ramen. Its pretty much the bomb. It retails for like 12 bucks on Amazon – you should totally get some. Get it here or click the image below.
Hair of the Dog
You may have heard this saying before but a little “hair of the dog” can set you right. Chances are, you have some liquor left in the bottle or another beer leftover. If you are feeling bad enough, crack it and take a sip. This is usually my last-ditch effort to be rid of my hangover, but it can work.
Smoothies or ‘Natural Cures?’
When it comes to concoctions you can mix up with specific vitamins, etc., I’d be wary. A lot of the time, those remedies are fairly difficult to choke down. More often than not, it is used to just make you throw up so the alcohol (and everything else) leaves your system. I don’t know about you but I’d rather avoid that altogether.
That being said, these are just five of my own tried-and-true hangover cures. What are some cheap ways to recover from a hangover that you’ve tried?

Pickle juice right from the jar. Helps quite a bit also. Plate of hashbrowns with gravy on top. And the all time best cure is a bowl of menudo.
