What’s the Real Deal With the Starbucks Free Refill?
We live in a world where nothing is truly free. There is a BOGO sale at the store and, yes, the second one is technically free. You might score a “free” t-shirt when you buy $100 event tickets. Occasionally, you come across an actual freebie though. My wife, like many other women, loves Starbucks and I’d heard rumors of free refills. Say it ain’t so, we’d save a fortune! So, what’s the real deal with the Starbucks free refill?
Can You Get Refills at Starbucks?
First, you’re probably thinking to yourself, “Yeah, right. Starbucks isn’t giving refills.” But, they do. In some cases, that refill may even be free. However, your refill order needs to meet a few specific criteria for you to get a free top-up. Luckily for you, I’ve done the research so you don’t have to.
The Real Deal With the Starbucks Free Refill
You can get a free refill at Starbucks, but not on your specialty iced Pumpkin Spice Latte with almond milk. Customers can get a free refill on the fresh coffee or tea (iced or hot). On top of that, you will need to have purchased your first drink through the Starbucks app. When you request the refill, show the barista your app (or the Starbucks card used for the purchase). Once you do that, they can give you a refill.
There is a one refill limit. It should also be noted that once you leave the store you forfeit your refill. So, no sneaking over to the shopping center and circling back around at Starbucks for a refill. That being said, there are a few other good ways to save money at Starbucks.
Use the Starbucks Rewards App to Save More
As mentioned above, to be able to get a refill you will need to use the Starbucks app. By downloading it to your phone you unlock all kinds of Starbucks goodies. You simply upload $10+ to the account to pay for your drinks and/or snacks. Use the app at checkout to pay for your order and then you earn points.
Your points can be redeemed at different times for items in the store. For instance, 25 rewards points will get you a free drink of any kind (no matter what you want in it). You will also get birthday points around your birthday. Every year, my wife goes to pick up her free Starbucks drink for her birthday using the app.
At any rate, if you were wondering what the real deal with the Starbucks free refill is, it’s not fake. You can get a refill at Starbucks but you’ll need to use the app and make a fairly boring drink order to get it. For us, Starbucks is typically a treat (or a necessity if my wife is running errands). Getting a plain cup of joe or tea-like we have at home wouldn’t be the same. So, we likely won’t be reaping the benefit of this small Starbucks freebie.
