Save Money With A Group Vacation
My family and I just enjoyed a fantastic four-day vacation. We stayed in a beautiful five-bedroom recently remodeled house just steps from a lake. Kayaks, a paddleboat, bikes, and a pontoon boat were available for use anytime we desired. We also ate delicious meals every day of our trip. It was a vacation we couldn’t afford on our own. Our experience showed just how you can save money on a group vacation.
Split Accommodation Cost
We spent the vacation with my parents, and my brother and his family. The house was large, had vaulted ceilings and a huge kitchen with a massive walk off deck on the back of the home. Splitting the cost three ways not only made the accommodations affordable for everyone, but it allowed us to rent a lake house with amenities we could not have gotten by renting on our own.
Who Needs A Restaurant?
Most everyone has a specialty they make really well. My marinated brats, my dad’s pork chops, and my sister-in-law’s seasoned chicken breasts and walking tacos were just some of the better than restaurant meals we ate while on vacation. We made a list of everything we needed to bring and then made lists for each family. The cost of our grocery contribution was about the amount of a week’s worth of groceries, which is far less than eating out for four days.
Pontoon Boat Rental
A Pontoon boat is perfect for a group of people to cruise around a lake, however, renting one is a significant expense. The one we rented cost $240 a day. When we split the cost of it, however, the rental became affordable to have the boat for three full days.
Upfront Costs
The structure of our vacation was such that everything was paid for ahead of time. The house rental was paid months before the vacation, as was the pontoon rental. The groceries were purchased just ahead of leaving for vacation. The only money we spent while actually on vacation was to purchase a couple of bottles of wine. Otherwise, we enjoyed the lake, fishing, and grilling without spending an additional penny.
Vacations are better when you have extra amenities. You can save money on a group vacation and increase its quality if you go with friends and family. Just make sure you really like the people you’re vacationing with.
