Save Money With Student Discounts
I noticed a membership refund from Amazon Prime when looking through the transaction history of my son’s checking account. When I asked him about it the next time I spoke to him, he explained he had canceled his membership because he found an offer for a free 6-month subscription. He went on to describe several useful student discounts he found he could take advantage of as a college student.
Amazon Prime
My son scored a free 6-month subscription (he canceled his paid for membership and got back a pro-rated refund for the unused portion), after which he will get a student membership for $50, half the cost of a full membership. The downside of a student membership is that it cannot be shared with another adult using Amazon Households.
Spotify
He had been paying $9.99 a month for Spotify premium, which he canceled in favor of a cheaper Spotify student plan. With the student discount, he pays half as much, $4.99 a month!
Microsoft Office
Microsoft Office is a suite of applications that are extremely useful for college students. It includes word processor, spreadsheet, and presentation creation applications among others. The home version of Office is $150, but my son found out that his university provides a copy for all students free of charge! He simply had to go to a university website, signon, and download it to his computer.
Students are huge users of today’s popular apps, utilities, and services. However, providers recognize students generally have less money to work with to purchase the things they want. By offering student rates, providers and retailers gain a customer base that they hope will become loyal to their brand and continue to purchase their products at full price once they are no longer students.
How about you, Clever Friends, what other student discounts do you know about?
