The End of a Dream
I can’t believe it’s been almost a full year since I sold my bass guitar to a guy in Belgium. If you recall, I spent thousands on musical instruments back in college (and shortly after) in my quest to become a rock star. I never actually learned to play more than a few songs on the bass, but I could jam for hours just with stuff coming out of my head. My duplex neighbors in college told me they would just hang out and drink beers while they listened to me jam. Had I known, I would have invited them over. It was the girls’ lacrosse team and I was single at the time 😉
Anyway, for some reason, I held onto the amp (a Crate BX50) that I used with the bass guitar. I think I paid $250-300 about 8 years ago, and of course never used it outside of the home. Well, it was now time to post it on Craigslist and see what I could get for it.
I posted it for $125, and eventually, after a week, found a buyer offering $90. I negotiated upwards to $110 and we called it a deal. I didn’t have the patience to have to keep renewing the listing every 7 days, and the thing is too darn heavy (47 lbs) to ship easily on eBay, so I just accepted the lower offer.
I had to work for a few days to arrange a pickup time since it was over the holiday, but he stopped Tuesday to pick it up. Apparently he doesn’t know how to play bass either, but wants to try to pick it up, much like I did a decade ago. Good luck!
At least I still have my acoustic guitar…for now.

I thought I was the only one. I’ve got a Warwick bass and Epiphone amp that have been just sitting around for the last couple of years and I just can’t convince myself to get rid of them. It’s a nice bass so I could probably get a good chunk of money out of it, but alas…that’s going to have to wait. I keep telling myself that eventually I’ll pick it up again…I’m sure you can sympathize.

I played lead guitar in a high school band, received an acoustic guitar as a high school graduation. 39 years later, still have the acoustic and now play electric bass with my church musical liturgy ensemble. Everything comes in full circle!

Is it bad that i tell people i’m in a band, even though i’ve only mastered one Jimmy Buffet song 3 years ago? haha… it’s just so easy to get away with due to my hair. But i only do it at bars, and with many a drinks in me…no point in lying in the middle of the day.
